As if the Democrats were not already divided, here comes the war between the President and Congress. Of his campaign promises, Obama claimed that there would be no earmarks when he became president of the United States. Sad to say, but there were earmarks in the $787 billion spending bill as well as the $410 spending bill passed by the House Democrats yesterday.
The Democratic president and the Democratic leader of the Senate are not exactly on the same page regarding earmarks.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada in no uncertain terms defended the right of lawmakers to direct federal dollars to their districts despite the efforts by President Obama to curb the time-honored practice as he puts the finishing touches on his first fiscal-year budget, to be released Thursday.
“We are a separate branch of government,” Mr. Reid told reporters Wednesday.
The failure of Barack Obama has begun. As I see it, Obama has only two options:
1. Fail to live up to his campaign promise and pass the spending bills. This will anger the American people for because of the earmarks, unnecessary spending, and broken campaign promises.
2. VETO the spending bills and as Obama has said that if they are not passed it “will turn crisis into a catastrophe and guarantee a longer recession and the national unemployment rate will reach double digits.”
Can you say, CHECKMATE!
