As you might as well guessed, with the likely chance that Barack Hussein Obama will ban and outlaw guns, there is a huge demand to get these automatic rifles before they become banned permanently. The last ban passed in 1994 was for 10 years with a provision that it would expire unless Congress renewed it. The AR-15 rifles doubled and even trippled in price after the ban went into effect.
Since after the ban goes into effect, the gun manufacturers will not be able to make any more of them, and with an increase in demand, this only yields extremely high prices. If you are able to find an arms dealer that even has any available, you can expect to pay between $2,000 to $3,000 for just the basic model. I had talked to a dealer the other day, and he just had a customer that paid $17,000 for a fully automatic M16.
The AR-15 rifles are very versatile and can be adapted to add on a number of various accessories: lights, lasers, sights, grips, silencers, et cetera. This is what makes them so popular. You can take a basic model and easily customize it to fit your needs or preferences.
While you may or may not be considering an investment into an AR-15 rifle, you will certainly want to invest in items with which you can use to barter or trade even if you do not personally use them. Such items as food, ammo, cigarettes, et cetera. As our economy comes to a grinding halt, and as the Federal Reserve erodes the value of our fiat currency, bartering is what will keep you going.

Owning a gun does not mean that you can adequately protect yourself. I would highly recommend that any gun owners take proper training on how to use a gun, and even do some shooting at a shooting range or something. It is better to be prepared before an event happens than try to figure out how to use it when it is too late.
“Having a gun and thinking you are armed is like having a piano and thinking you are a musician.”
The right to bear arms was something the Founding Father’s carefully considered when drafting the Bill of Rights during the Continential COngress of 1781. The Founding Father were ingenious in the sense that they wanted the governemnt they were founding to be AFRAID of the people in the sence like keeping politicians honest and corruption wouldn’t be tolerated.
The first thing an oppressive regime does when it takes over is disarm it’s citizens in whatever way they can think of (going door to door, increasing taxes on ammo to 500%, bankrupting dealers), while facious regimes want guns and crime so they can “take away most of your rights and protect you from the bad guys.” They need the fear.
So I advise to stop reacting in fear to these events and take charge. Yes, I’ve bought several guns before the president elect won the race, and several other items that will assure me that I can sustain my home defense. But it would also take an act of Congress and a rewriting of the constitution.
In my opinion he could never ban guns and go home to home collecting them. Do you think Obama really wants to insight a civil war? I sure don’t think that’s what he’s aiming for, but I think some where along the way he will make it extremely costly for gun owners to buy and shoot guns as a leisurly activity (and it does help relieve stress to get good at a target range).
Doc,
You said that “it would also take an act of Congress and a rewriting of the constitution.”
Actually, all it would take is 5 people on a Supreme Court to declare that 2nd Amendment is not an individual right for self-defense, but rather a collective right of the people to have military protection.
Obama, as president, would easily be able to appoint just 1 judge on the Supreme Court that would be able to reverse the decision in District of Columbia vs Heller (since that was decided on a 5-4 vote).
